Kinesiology Solutions to Goal Setting and Achievement
Goal setting is a part of our everyday life. So often in our lives we know what we don't want, we know we don't want pain and discomfort, we know we don't want poverty and distressing relationships. We often agree with our thoughts of, 'there is never enough' whether this be time, money, love, recognition, approval and so forth. If our thoughts are fearful and negative, the body will tighten and become uncomfortable effecting our health, attitudes and ability to live happy and fulfilling lives. If this is what we put our minds to; creating negative scenarios in our imagination then this becomes in someway a form of goals setting. After all every thing we see was first imagined and through the creative process came about.
If however we are thinking happy and positive thoughts our body remains relaxed and comfortable. This is a key to creating greater health, success and happiness. Kinesiology assists your mind and body to cooperate with your conscious desires and permanent healingrequires a change in consciousness, particularly in relationship to our self, as the process of creation begins from within.
Before you begin the goal setting process it is useful to take the time to think about what kind of goals you habitually set for yourself. You can discover whether these goals expand or restrict your horizons, benefit others as well as yourself, and if they reflect the kind of person you most want to be. Any worthwhile goal you have in life is like a promise to yourself. That promise will be more likely kept if your goals are self-defined, inspiring, purposeful, rewarding and realistic, together with commitment, action and persistence. Keeping in mind that only when you risk change will you be free to believe in yourself and do what you want to do.
It is important to know the purpose for achieving your goal. Your purpose is the reason for doing something for which there was originally an idea. Your goal must fulfil your values and fit into the big picture of your life. The outcomes are not the goal, the outcomes are the journey toward the goal, and they must be specific, measurable and self maintained. In reaching your goals you need to support yourself by breaking down long-term goals into short, manageable steps. As Ursula Le Guin has so eloquently reminded us " It is good to have an end to journey towards' but it is the journey that matters, in the end."
Examples of some of the factors that block you from achieving your goals are:
- Lack of exercise
- Poor nutrition and dehydration
- Negative thinking
- Lack of motivation, confidence and self esteem
- Lack of purpose
- Limiting beliefs, attitudes, behaviours and sabotage patterns
- Past traumas and events
- Poor diet and dehydration
It is important to acknowledge that there are often hidden agendas that conflict with our 'apparent' desire for change. For example, a person with back pain may be unconsciously benefiting by getting or desiring extra love and attention. Achieving goals requires us to make changes and sometimes to move out of our comfort zone that can confront us with new and possibly threatening challenges.
In dealing with these hidden agendas and varied imbalances Kinesiology offers us an opportunity to change our past and our future by reprogramming the present. Our perception of the past and our thoughts of the future can influence our present functioning. Past traumas may have a 'toxic' effect that not only impairs the present but also prevents our potential future success. Not only can we 'detoxify' the past we can 're-wire' ourselves for a future filled with happiness and success by programming a goal into the mind and body.
As practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Kinesiology Lyn will 'programme' a goal into the ' biocomputer ' as if it were a fact right now, stated in the positive with the client holding the goal in mind. When the client is blocked in this area and states their goal all that is between them and fulfilling their goal surfaces and they immediately feel out of their comfort zone. This statement is then not accepted as a possible fact by the ' biocomputer '. This is where the Kinesiology assessment identifies what the blocks are and what corrective techniques are required to 'reprogram' and 'detoxify' the whole person, creating balance within the mind and body. The result is the goal is now accepted by the ' biocomputer ' and the mind and body will work toward achieving the desired goal. So an acceptable positive programme has just rewired a piece of negative programming from the past.
